DIGIPREDICT is an app designed for people 12 years and over who have asthma. It has been designed for New Zealand users only.

DIGIPREDICT aims to support your health and wellbeing by evaluating and monitoring your asthma which may be of interest to you, your family/whanau and your medical specialist.

DIGIPREDICT does not provide medical advice. The content and information should not be used for any medical or diagnostic purpose or relied upon as a substitute for professional medical advice.

Always consult your doctor or other qualified health professional if you have questions or concerns about your or your whanau health. If you need urgent help, please call 111 or present to your local Emergency Department. Otherwise ask your GP to refer you to see your medical specialist.

This Privacy Policy explains how we use and protect your personal information when you use the DIGIPREDICT app. We encourage you to read it thoroughly.

Definitions used in these Terms

In these Terms:

"DIGIPREDICT" means the DIGIPREDICT mobile phone application and any supporting DIGIPREDICT websites.

"Personal information" generally means information about an identifiable individual, as defined in the Privacy Act 2020.

"UniServices" means our wholly owned subsidiary, Auckland UniServices Limited.

"University" or "we" means the University of Auckland.

Collection and Use of Personal Information

We collect your personal information through the DIGIPREDICT app and related research activities, including but not limited to:

Data collected from various sources—both through the DIGIPREDICT app and external research activities—is integrated to provide a comprehensive understanding of asthma management. This holistic approach enables the development of predictive models for asthma exacerbations, enhancing both the app's functionality and the research outcomes.

Sharing of Personal Information

We share your personal information for the following purposes:

  • with designated medical professionals for the direct benefit of your health management, contingent upon your consent.
  • with research collaborators (with your consent obtained as part of the research process), to be used in an aggregated and anonymised form to advance asthma research and technology.
  • coded information to third-party device suppliers (e.g., Fitbit, Adherium) as necessary for the study's purposes, including device improvement.
  • Regulatory bodies, as mandated by law.
  • with UniServices, for the purposes below.

    Storage and Security

    We will take reasonable steps to ensure the security and confidentiality of personal information that we collect. We work closely with UniServices to provide DIGIPREDICT, including to store personal information and ensure the proper operation of DIGIPREDICT. We will not use overseas data storage providers or share your personal information with third-party researchers unless we are satisfied that they are subject to legal or contractual obligations comparable to those under NZ privacy laws. Coded data might be stored or processed outside New Zealand, adhering to privacy standards equivalent to those in New Zealand. This is necessary due to the international collaboration and the global operation of device manufacturers used in the study.

    We may revise this policy to reflect changes in legal or operational practices. The latest update is noted at the beginning of this document.
